Welcome from the Organizing commitee
The flip side of higher economic growth in African countries has resulted in increased consumption of the natural resources, increased waste generation and hence ecological degradation. The majority of African countries are nowadays facing the problems of high volumes of waste, low capacity to management and high costs involved in the management. Currently of the 62 million tonnes of MSW generated in sub-Saharan Africa, more than 90% are disposed through unscientific manner, which leads to health and environmental impacts. With our increasing awareness on detrimental environmental effects of current waste disposal methods, there is a significant onus of accountability for effective waste management. Moreover, rapid urbanization in Africa would create higher demand for scientific & sustainable waste management techniques.
Realizing the need to overcome current challenges on waste management, and contribute to implement modern and scientific methods for waste management, partners of Trans4Biotech project are organizing the 2nd Edition of “AFRICA SUSTAINABLE SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP’’. The workshop is one of the flagship events of Trans4Biotech project, providing an excellent platform for all stakeholders to address various issues and challenges of waste management, acclimatize new concepts and technologies as well as facilitating new business opportunities.
